Welcome to Orienteering NSW

Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. It's also loads of fun!

The aim is to use a special orienteering map to navigate your way around a course and visit marked check points along the way. You choose a course that suits your age and experience and proceed at your own pace: walk, jog or run. It is a race but you decide if you want to just race yourself or be the next world champion! The course may take you through urban areas, parks, schools, farmland or forests.

Events are conducted weekly across NSW and beginners are welcome at all events.

New to orienteering? Click here for more information.

Want to enter an event? You can see what's on by looking at the Coming Events at left or by going to the Event Calendar. Some events are enter on the day - you just turn up and register at the start. Other events require pre-entry and for that you need to know about (and register with) Eventor - read the Eventor FAQ.

Moonlight Madness is winter SSS

1st Moonlight Madness of 2024 is on next week (Wednesday).

Location: corner of Sailors Bay Road and Kameruka Road (Bonds Corner), Northbridge.

With setter David Stanley and controller Stephanie Nicholls from Garingal club hosting us.

Please enter online in Eventor preferred or at the event.

Using the same 30-control score course format as the popular Sydney Summer Series, Moonlight Madness is conducted in Sydney locations on the Wednesday of the month nearest the full moon.

You'll need a torch or headlamp, and courses are generally shorter than SSS to allow for the slower navigation after dark.

Bush controls are located on tracks for safety.

The start window is 5.30-7pm. Not to mention, all the world's elites say that orienteering at night improves your skills!

2024 Australian Orienteering Championships Armidale Sept/Oct

AOC 2024 Teams

The Australian Orienteering Championship Carnival to be held in Armidale 28th Sept-6th Oct is being organised by teams of orienteers from all clubs within NSW.

Many orienteers have volunteered to be part of AOC 2024.

The current list of names for these teams can be found here.

We would like to recognise these people and we look forward to working with you on what promises to be a high-quality carnival.

We are still hopeful that some more orienteers will volunteer.

If you would like to help during the carnival in any way, please email Nick or Ron.

We are especially looking for orienteers who can help with arena setup on Friday 27th Sept, Mon 30th (pm), Tues 1st Oct (pm) and Fri 4th Oct.

We will also be forming teams of control collectors for each of the events.

All ages are welcome – children, adults, and parents. Lessons are conducted in small groups.

We focus on different skills and give participants plenty of opportunities to have fun exploring techniques to build confidence in using a map to navigate.

See work in progress ONSW webpage.

Three of our clubs - Bush N Beach, Hastings Orienteers and Waggaroos have already shown interest.
